Open since November 1994 The Tyne bar is operated by the people who brought you the legendary Barley Mow (now sadly no more) and the Egypt Cottage in its pre wine bar heyday.

The Tyne Bar is quite simply the final result of over 20 years experience in the alternative pub scene in Newcastle and we like to think the pedigree shows.

The Tyne was formerly known as the Ship Tavern; a notorious establishment better known for the horizontal refreshment on offer in the rooms above as for the liquid refreshment offered at the bar.

Since its refurbishment in 1995 however, The Tyne has provided Newcastle with a very civilized blend of wonderful beer, great music and innovative food. Whether you want to sample the very best of locally brewed real ales or simply enjoy a coffee in our unique beer garden the Tyne has something to offer you.

The beer garden in underneath the Glasshouse Bridge allowing customers to sit outside even when its pouring down with rain. Customer controlled heat lamps and music from a free juke box makes for an amazing atmosphere.

It has acomfortable lounge area, intimately lit, a roomy restaurant complete with an impressive semi-open kitchen and wood burning pizza oven so that you really get the feel of the restaurant.

The menu is naturally Sardinian in tone, accompanied by a healthy mix of Mediterranean favourites ensuring that there is something for everyone. Expect a fine variety of meat and seafood offerings in particular.

Of course there is still the usual range of pizza and pasta dishes done extremely well, we might add, making this a great choice for kids and grown-ups alike.

The extensive ‘happy hour’ drinks offers make Bar Bannatyne an affordable ‘pre-bar’ to kick off the start of your night but with our dance floor, regular DJ and 1 o’clock licence, we’ve got the middle and end covered too!

Bar Bannatyne is open all day long and is well worth popping in.

Happy hour at Bar Bannatyne runs all night from Sunday to Wednesday. Lunch times at Bannatyne’s are happy too, with happy hour from 11am – 3pm.

You can enjoy a variety of live entertainment at the Cumberland Arms ranging from live music to comedy nights. Gigs are performed upstairs while more traditional performances such as folks sessions are in the back bar.

The Cumberland Arms has a welcoming atmosphere and is the perfect place to sit by the open fires and settle down with friends and family.
